Great read:
I am reading the latest issue of The Los Angeles Review (volume 6, Fall 2009) and, wow, am I having a good time. It's the first time I've ever read the journal, but it won't be the last. It's filled with terrific stories, stories by Alicia Gifford (one of my favorite writers), Ethel Rohan (another favorite of mine), Michael Czyzniejewski (a writer I've only recently discovered and am completely enamored with his work), Steve Almond (a writer who, of course, I've heard of but never had the pleasure of reading before now), and a ton of others I can't wait to read.

Thanks so much, Mitzi, for your kind words and for supporting literary magazines.
ReplyDeleteYey Mitzi - thanks for the mention of Los Angeles Review. Glad you are enjoying it. I'm the Fiction Editor and born and raised in Wisconsin. LOVE your site!

Ethel - Thanks for stopping by! The shout out for your writing is my pleasure... always enjoy your work.
ReplyDeleteStefanie - Thanks so much for stopping by! You're from Wisconsin?? Yay!! Where? So are you in California now? I dream about leaving the cold and snow behind, heading somewhere warm :)
ReplyDeleteMitzi, you have such a great blog. I am loving my copy of the LAR. I hope tomorrow you'll check out my JMWW interview with Michael Czyzniejewski. As funny/brilliant as his stories are, I still wasn't expecting him to be such a great interview.
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking out my blog post. Don't feel bad about not wanting to go on the treadmill! If you'd seen 1/9 of what I've consumed this weekend, my run yesterday would look nowhere near as solid. D
Oh and that Alicia Gifford story is AMAZING. The last 200 words are what it's all about, the thing that keeps me reading and writing all the time.
ReplyDeleteDavid - thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on your story in LAR!!! Seems I'm going to have to post a follow up... LAR was kind enough to mention my little ole blog on their blog and I feel compelled to mention all the other great stories I've read from this issue, yours included. Having kids provides a endless supply of story ideas, yes?
I am now heading to the treadmill.... ha!
Oh, and thanks for the heads up on the interview with Mike Czyzniejewski... I'll check it out!
ReplyDeleteThanks all around, Mitzi! I'm just back from a long drive home from Jersey to Maryland and instead of going to bed at 1030 I'm having a glass of wine and chocolate. All that running is now eclipsed!
ReplyDeleteLAR is wonderful. I am so thrilled to have a story in it. The issue is amazing. I've mainly been published online so it's a great feeling holding this journal. I do like your recent post about online v print. I'm up in the air. As long as all journals accept online subs I'll be happy! I spent all of 2002 it seems going to the post office or Office Depot.
Thanks re the Michael Czyzniejewski interview! I'm very excited about it. D
